A Brief History:

The Ballet Folklorico Mayahuel,

meaning “God of the Maguey”

was founded in February of 2008

in Dallas, TX.

Director David Marroquin originally founded Ballet Folklorico Mayahuel in Miguel Aleman Tamaulipas Mexico during the year of 1989, where they subsequently won seven National Dance Championships. It also earned the recognition “Champion of Champions” during the 1995 National Championship of Huapango.

Dreaming of expanding and reaching a broader audience The group made its way to Detroit Michigan opening its doors in March of 1997. Mayahuel quickly became the premier Mexican Dance group in the state. performing throughout the area and as far as Windsor Ontario Canada.

Since relocating to Dallas, Mayahuel has performed for many prestigious events and festivals, it’s members consist of both very experienced veteran dancers who are instructors in there own right as well as novice dancers working together to keep our culture alive!

David Marroquin graduated in 1988 from the Academia de Danza Folklorica Atemoztli and the Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas as a Mexican Dance Instructor. Specializing in the State of Tamaulipas in 1992. From 1988 to 1989 David Marroquin dance professionally with the Ballet Folklorico Atemoztly in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta Jalisco.

The Word Folklore means “History of a Town or Country”, and the main goal of the Ballet Folklorico Mayahuel its to preserve the Mexican Folklore History in the most traditional way possible.
